Generations in the Kitchen – Cooking, Connecting and Learning Together
The Power Movement is excited to introduce Generations in the Kitchen, a new 28-week intergenerational cooking project bringing older and younger members of our community together through a shared love of food.
Supported by The National Lottery, the project will create a welcoming space where people of different ages and backgrounds can cook, learn, share experiences and build meaningful connections with one another.
Taking place at Selby Community Centre in London E1 5BX, each weekly two-hour session will centre around preparing a new dish together, with participants learning practical cooking skills while enjoying the social side of making and sharing food.
Bringing generations together
Food has a wonderful ability to bring people together.
Generations in the Kitchen is about much more than learning new recipes. By bringing senior citizens, elderly community members and younger generations into the kitchen together, the project provides an opportunity for people to share knowledge, stories, traditions and skills across generations.
Whether someone has been cooking for decades or is just beginning to find their way around the kitchen, everyone is welcome.
Participants will be encouraged to learn from one another in a friendly and supportive environment, helping to strengthen connections within the local community.
Cook together, eat better
Over the course of the 28-week programme, participants will discover how enjoyable healthy and cost-effective cooking can be.
Each week will introduce a new dish, giving everyone the chance to develop their cooking skills, experiment with different ingredients and discover ideas they can recreate at home.
Participants will also receive a printed recipe to take home each week, making it easier to continue cooking and sharing healthier meals with friends and family.
Throughout the project, participants can look forward to:
Learning cost-effective recipes and cooking methods
Preparing a new dish each week
Discovering ideas for healthier meals
Developing practical cooking skills
Building friendships and connections across generations
Taking home a printed recipe every week
Sharing knowledge, experiences and traditions with others
Everyone is welcome
One of the most important ingredients in Generations in the Kitchen is the community itself.
The programme is designed to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds, creating a relaxed and inclusive environment where everyone can contribute.
By cooking side by side, we hope participants will not only learn something new but also meet new people, build confidence and develop connections that extend beyond the kitchen.
